It has its original open leather keeper or loop at its endIt is remarkably well balanced considering its heavy handle

There are losses to the edge of the tread

otherwise it is in quite good condition for its age with an original central fold line and some old slightly yellowed tape marks on the lower central fold and the right side

the detail on one of these has been smoothed by polishing

The flask is handblown heavy crystal The red brown coloured case has a very good patina. It is stamped "Walklate Berkhamsted", John Walklate (1819 1894) was born in Hemel and was a saddler and harness maker all his working life, his shop seems to have ceased trading in the mid 20th century The case closes with a billet fastening The case has its original top strap which attaches the flask
